The final week in the work placement was very busy where we have to prepare training sessions and activities for national day. I think that if we have our work placement on October before the national day, the staffs will have time to attend and get benefit from the training sessions because we only did one workshop and distributed tutorials.

Explained About Booklet

I was delighted to do the training session after the work time about Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 where only 4 staffs attend. I believe that they get benefit because they kept asking questions and were impressed on our example “previous work” such as Jonasson booklet and 5 stages brochure. My peer Shaikha taught about how to create certificate, CD label and cover. Then, Rasha explained how to create brochures and Business Information. Finally, I illustrated how to create and design using blank booklet.

I was enthusiastic when I sat with Mrs. Maryanne Amna and my peers talking about how the work placement gone and sharing our views and experiences. I think that people can learn from each other’s experiences and sharing knowledge and perspectives.

Coloring Activity

I was disappointed about the kindergarten activities because they were unorganized and then blame us of being unprofessional. In fact, they did not tell us before and one day was not enough to create technological games especially where we have to consider the kindergarten’s students’ levels when creating the questions related to national day, so coloring and counting activities were enough and successful because the children were excited and enjoyed it.

I was excited in creating materials for national day celebration in the Cultural Center which will be from 30 Nov to 5 Dec. we bought sweets, fabrics, tapes and basket from the shop. I was happy to read from my classmates’ websites for Web Development Course and summarize the information about the UAE heritage for the cards. Gifts

I was sad because we could not come to the college to celebration for the national day with our friends. In my point of views, this is unfair to miss that important day for us and for our country. I wish in the next year, the college will send us to work placement earlier, so we can attend the celebration.

To conclude, I believe that work placement was new and different experience although I had trained in business sectors in the summer vacation and I hope the next semester to train in Royal Hospital.

I created a video about the national day for the show area in the Cultural Center with using Camtasia. I also create a bee cell game and putting questions about aphorism and old popular games.

Then, Shaikha and I went to the library to take the laminating cards. I sit with my peers cutting and arranging the cards. We finished at 12:00 pm. Later, we went to buy a basket to put everything in it. We give the basket for Amna and the director Mr. Abdulla thanked us and asked us to come and trained again. He also invited us to come to celebrate next week.

Today, we start to think for some ideas for the national day because the Cultural Center will has activities and celebration from 30 Nov to 5 December.

We went to the shop and bought fabric and then to the library to laminate 90 papers which include cards about UAE culture; architecture, education, falconine, diving and games. After that, we went to buy sweets.

Later, at 5:30 pm, we came back to Cultural Center and start to cut and tide the sweets with the fabric, we used red, green, white and black “UAE flag’s color” tapes and stick greeting crads.

I arrived home at 9:;30 pm.

Camtasia

Today, Mrs. Maryanne visit us in Cultural Center at 10:00 am and then Amna come to join us and meet our Mrs. We sit and discuss about the Work Place and what we have achieved with them and experiences we get. I believe that was great to know others experience and get to know Amna more.

Next couple of hours, we are going to do training session about Camtasia. Hope Good Luck For Us.

Coloring Activity

Today, we prepare some activities about the national day for kindergarten, but unfortunately the Ministry of Culture did not prepare well for the activities because I think they were busy doing other things for other schools. I was disappointed about what happened and I believe that they should be well organize next time.

The Culture Center also prepare the last curriculum competition from girls and boys schools to find out how will be the winner and will get rewards.

Today, I went to the college to try something in Camtasia Studio 5 and when I finished up my trying, I went directly to the Cultural Center where I arrived there at 9:15 am. In the college, I met Reem and Salama whose gave me some advises about the training sessions.

When I arrived to my work place, I start to create my tutorial about my section in Camtasia Studio 5 and then, I discuss with Amna about Tuesday when Mrs. Maryanne wants to visit us and see her. Then, Amna called me asking about training session for today which is the same that were delayed from Thursday.

Explained About Booklet

At 2:00 pm we did our workshop and 4 staffs attended who were:-

1. The director Mr. Abdulla
2. Mr. Ali
3. Mrs. Aman
4. Mrs. Ma-riam who was sick that day.

And they were impressed about the new Publisher. I felt comfortable after we did the training session and after I saw the audiences were satisfied.

The second week was very successful when I realized the actual work that I have to perform and I set up the final schedule  for training sessions with deciding the appropriate programs. In my point of view, Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 is important to learn because it provides ready template and facilitates creating broachers, booklet, labels and certificates which I believe is necessary for employees’ work.

The Program

I was delighted to take Mrs. Maryanne in a tour around the Cultural Center and I was comfortable to see her satisfied about my Work Placement. Then, she sat and explained the assessments and the work I have to complete after coming back to the college. I think this gives me a clear vision about the whole tasks I have to finish during and after the work place.

I noticed most of the staffs are busy in doing activities for different schools about a variety of occasions such as Arabic Week, National Day..etc  I also observed that most of the work done outside the center and the ministry, but at 1:00 pm the staffs come back to their offices and finish up the rest work and write a report about the day for Ministry Culture, Youth and Community Development in Abu Dhabi.

Moreover, I found out that there are a monthly timetable for shift working. For instance, Miss, Hana works from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm between Sunday and Tuesday and from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Wednesday and Thursday, so the official working hours is from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and then from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm because there are some students visit the Cultural Center after the school day for completing their work, playing some games and using the library or even the Internet to make researches.  I was surprised when I discovered that some employees work on Saturday.

Card

I was enthusiastic to see the new UAQ Cultural Center which is now under construction and will be open next year as Mr. Abdulla said. The new building has a lot of facilities such as health care, libraries, theater, restaurants and clubs. At the beginning of the week, I prepared a card about some good websites for creating a variety of games. I obtained more knowledge about using and designing templates in Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 and how to choose effective websites through different websites.

I was impressed to show my knowledge and technical skills while creating the tutorial for my section which us about creating booklet (Newsletters) in Microsoft Office Publisher 2007. I collaborated effectively with my peers when I went to City Center and bought files and my peers bought pens and photocopied he tutorial. I wrote the details and the goals of the training session which I believe is important to see if the audiences achieved the learning outcomes or not.

Perparation

On the day of the training session, Mr. Nabel and Fasel set up the data-show for us in women library and we arranged the table and chairs, but unfortunately only two of the staffs attended the workshop who were Mrs. Amna and Mr. Marwan. The director Mr. Abdulla apologized because he suddenly had an important work to complete, Mrs. Mariam need to write an article for a newspaper and another Mariam had a fever and she went home. As a result, we decided to change the date because we wanted as much as staff to learn publisher, so Shaikha taught the two staff “Survey Monkey” because as we believe it is simple, easy and won’t take a long time.

I was sad because things do not go as we prepare and I wish that will not happen again on Sunday.

This semester I had a Work Placement instead of Teaching Practice which I believe it is a great opportunity to apply what we had studied at the college and connect the courses in real career environment. I had been at UAQ Cultural Center and had an opportunity to share experiences and ideas via vox blog. I also had a chance for developing stuffs, creating materials and training adults.

When I negotiates with the director Mr. Abdulla about what suppose from me to do in the work place and what tasks I have to complete, I was disappointed because it is difficult to persuade him about our tasks and training sessions. I found out that I should think well about the programs they need to learn and connect to the employees’ work considering their various positions. I paid attention to the fact that adults like to follow their interest in learning as we looked at the article “Adults As Learners”.

The Ministry

I was shocked when I discovered that Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development is separate from Cultural Center “Main Library” which is cause some problems to have face to face conversations and interact directly with our supervisor. However, I was delighted on Cultural Center’s staffs’ altitude because they deal with me as an employee, afford their help if I face any problem and collaborate with me effectively.

In addition, I was impressed when the director asked us to create a booklet for the center which is a chance to demonstrate and combine knowledge with technical skills. I will start creating the booklet after I come back to the college because I believe that I need to learn how to design a professional and appropriate booklet with compatible colors and target audiences. I hope that the college will afford for us Graphic Design Course.

The Booklet

Furthermore, I realized that working in organization defiantly different then working at schools where I had limited options which was teaching and creating learning materials for the teachers. However, in business sectors, we have a wide range in creating booklet, site map and survey as they asked us. Also, I need to think carefully about how to utilize appropriate technology and software in different field.

To conclude, in my point of view this new experience will develop my technical, language and communication skills which I believe are necessary for my future career.

Today, Mr. Nabel and Fasel helped us to set up the data-how and computers for the workshop. I sit with my peers trained and prepare our speech and how to talk professionally.

Survey Monkey

At 12:30 pm we started to call Mr. Abdulla, Amna and Mariam to remind them about the training session, but unfortunately, Mariam had a fever and she went home and Mr. Abdulla suddenly had a work to complete so only Amna and Marwan attended the session. As a result, we change our decision and Shaikha taught them "Survey Monkey" because it is simple and easy and we will explain about Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 on Sunday Inshalla.

I was sorry about what happen...

Yesterday, we start to prepare the document tutorial about Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 and buy some files, papers and pens. We also collect and print the tutorial and set up the final preparation for the presentation and spoke to Mr. Nabel to supply the data-show and connected with my laptop before 1:00 pm.

Preparation

We also give the staffs the paper of attendance for the workshop if they want to attend. Now the total of the staffs who will attend the workshop is 5 and the director Mr. Abdullah is one of them. Then, I went to the college to finish up some works for the presentations and for Mr. Hilton report which we have to submit it after the Work Placement.

About my reflection for week one, I hope to post it soon because we have lots of work to do for both the center and our tasks for work placement...
